ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI – For the first three hours of the free agency period on Wednesday, the St. Louis Blues seemed quiet. The Blues had prepped well leading up to the free agency period resigning Wagner, Tkachuk, and Winchester. They also bought out the contract of often injured hard luck defenseman Jay McKee. While the Blues needs were very minimal, it was expected to see them somewhat active in free agency. The Blues did however sign Ty Conklin who turned in a fantastic season for the Detroit Red Wings serving as the back up to former Blue Chris Osgood. Conklin played 40 games for the Wings this season compiling a record of 25-11-2. Conklin averaged a meager 2.51 goals against average and six shut outs for the Western Conference Champions as he grew to establish himself as an NHL caliber goalie with a .909 save percentage. Conklin signed a two year, $2.6 million dollar contract. He is an Anchorage, Alaska native who is entering his seventh season in the NHL.
