CHICAGO- The Jets were coming off their best effort of the season on Monday night and looking to build on it against the defending Cup champs on the road. Winnipeg was also looking for payback after losing on Saturday to the Hawks.
Things didn’t change as the Blackhawks beat up on the Jets 4-1 and showed Winnipeg they still need to be more consistent if they want to run with the big dogs in the NHL.
Al Montoya was getting a rare back-to-back start after a strong performance against Detroit and was superb keeping his team in it stopping 24 shots in the loss.
Corey Crawford stopped 24 shots as well in the win.
The Blackhawks got goals from captain Jonathan Toews his 8th, Patrick Kane his 9th, Brandon Pirri his 3rd and Patrick Sharp got his 4th.
The Jets’ lone goal to break the goose egg came from Devin Setoguchi who got his 3rd to snap a personal 13-game goalless streak.
The Jets were once again plagued by mistakes as the Hawks were able to capitalize on turnovers and bad decisions with the puck.
The lone bright spot was the Jets were using their size a lot more as they out hit the Blackhawks 34-16.
Winnipeg was once again missing Evander Kane as he was out with a lower body injury although he did make the trip and did skate in warm up was still not medically cleared to play.
“You have to manage the puck well,” Jets head coach Claude Noel said. “You want to start shooting yourself in the foot, it’s in your net. We’ve given up nine goals in two games [against the Blackhawks]. Do we need to give up another four or five the next time to recognize this is what they can do? I understand we’re not perfect, but those things hurt you. Your puck management has to be great.”
Kane made the Jets look like timbit players on numerous occasions as he was putting on a stick-handling clinic.
A scary moment happened in the third period as Jets defenceman Adam Pardy was hit and the glass gave way and he had his helmet taken off by a fan who had one to0 many pops!! Pardy was also given a beer shower by another fan who was over the limit on beer!
The Jets will travel home and play the Nashville Predators on Friday night and hope they can resolve the Jeckyl and Hyde routine.
