PENSACOLA, FL. – On Sunday, December 8, the Pensacola Ice Flyers lost a tough 2-1 battle to the SPHL leading Louisiana IceGators.

The Ice Flyers had a number of great chances in the first and finally broke through with only 2:47 left in the period. Keegan Flaherty somehow knocked in the puck with a mass of bodies surrounding the crease. Shaun Arvai and Corey Banfield had the helpers on Flaherty’s third goal of the season. The Ice Flyers outshot Louisiana 17-8 in the opening period.

The second period was very even with both teams getting solid chances. The Ice Flyers’ lead didn’t last long into the period as Louisiana’s Chris Wilson scored just 1:39 into the period to tie the game up at 1. The shots were tied at 9 in the second.

In the third period, another quick Louisiana goal broke the 1-1 tie as Tyler Lyon scored 3:02 into the frame and gave the IceGators the edge. Pensacola outshot Louisiana in the final period 14-6 and had even more shots blocked before they could reach Gators goalie Kiefer Smiley as Louisiana did an excellent job of getting into the Ice Flyers’ shoot lanes.

Ross MacKinnon stopped 21 of the Gators’ 23 shots en route to his first loss since rejoining the Ice Flyers. Flaherty was named third star of the game.
