Bees prepare to take on local rivals again

BRACKNELL, UK – The Bracknell Bees are set for another big weekend in the English Premier League as they face their two local rivals for the second week in a row. Last weekend, the Bees narrowly lost out against the Bison in Basingstoke, but have the chance to seek revenge at they meet at the Hive on Sunday. The Bees were unlucky not to get anything from their opening game of the season. Gareth Cox’s side hit the iron three times before losing 4-2. Bracknell did however defeat the Slough Jets last Sunday, thanks to four power play goals. The Bees face their Berkshire rivals tonight in Slough, where the Jets will want to salvage some pride from last weekend. The Bees can expect the Jets to put up a tough fight after having three goals disallowed at The Hive last weekend. Speaking after that game, Bees Head Coach Gareth Cox, said: “They were disallowed for a reason. The scoreline showed we deserved the win, and we will look to do the same next weekend.” The Jets have lost their opening two league games after the Manchester Phoenix left Slough with a 5-3 victory last Saturday. Slough will see tonight’s game against the Bees as the ideal opportunity to get their season into full swing. The Bees showed a lot of promise last weekend. Against two of the league’s strongest teams, last season’s basement side showed a more confident and hungry side to their game. Cox made a host of changes to the struggling roster over the summer, but if last weekend’s performances are anything to go by – the Bees could surprise a few people this season. Speaking of his team’s ambitions for this season, Cox said: “Out aim is to compete every night, and for us that’s very important. “It’s a tough league, but if we approach every game thinking we can win, we know we’ll be moving in the right direction.” The new-look Bees appear to be gelling well as a unit, and with five power play goals in their opening two games – things appear to be looking up for the Bees. Several of the new additions have played together before, and the club’s bonding sessions over the summer appear to be paying off. “We’ve got a great ethos in the changing room. We’ve done lots of bonding over the summer, and we’ve all got the same goal” added Cox. Contact the author david.bol@prohockeynews.com
