BRACKNELL, UK – Bees coach Gareth Cox has added two British forwards to his roster for next season. Former Guildford Flames captain Rob Lamey and ex-Slough Jets man Michael Bowman will suit up for the Bees next season, following the signings of Lukas Smital and Shaun Thompson. Lamey spent the last five seasons at Guildford and has represented the Great Britain U20s twice in 1999 and 2000. “He has immense experience, is extremely professional and knows how to win. He is the perfect role model for some of our more junior players,” said Cox. “As soon as we knew that he was being released by Guildford, we were determined to get Rob to come to Bracknell. His leadership skills are well known and he will have a big influence in the changing room.” Bowman moves to Bracknell from local rivals Slough having won the EPL Cup last season and playoff titles in 2008 and 2010. “He plays a smart, disciplined game and always gives 100% on every shift. But importantly, he knows how to play well defensively and is committed to helping his team mates,” said Cox. “He has also been involved in Slough’s junior development and community programmes and I know he’ll be a great asset to our club.” The 30-year-old Lamey started his career at Guildford but has also played for the Basingstoke Bison, the Wightlink Raiders and the Chelmsford Chieftains during his career. Lamey teams up with former Flames teammate Smital, who will also be involved in coaching at Bracknell next season. Lamey said, “I’m excited to be joining the Bees and the new challenge ahead. It’s always tough leaving a club after spending so many happy seasons there, but I’ve been impressed with what Gareth and Lukas are planning to do in Bracknell and the team seems to be coming together nicely.” The Bees’ veteran defenceman and last season’s assistant coach Greg Randall has left the Hive to join the Peterborough Phantoms.
