Bears tie series with Checkers with 4-2 win

HERSHEY, Pa. — After falling to the Charlotte Checkers in game one of the East division semifinals on Thursday, the BEARS were seeking revenge on Sunday night. With the next three games slated to take place in Charlotte’s barn, Hershey was hoping to tie the series at home before hitting the road.
The first period only warranted a total of 12 shots on goal – five for Charlotte and seven for Hershey. But, it was the Bears who were able to capitalize, when Patrick McNeill planted a nifty backhander past Charlotte goaltender Justin Pogge at 12:02. McNeill’s goal, his first of the playoffs, would prove to be the only tally of the first; Hershey went to the dressing room up by one. The second period was a quick exchange of goals between Hershey and Charlotte. Andrew Kozek lit the lamp with a rocket from between the circles at 4:25 and just 35 seconds later, Zac Dalpe answered back from the right circle. At 7:08, Brian Willsie scored his second of the playoffs from the right point. And again, Dalpe answered back from the top of the right circle at 11:09. Sheldon Souray rounded out the period with a short-handed slap shot from the bottom of the left circle. With 40 minutes in the books, Bears led 4-2. The Bears played a defensively brilliant third period, knocking away eight shots on goal to keep the score at 4-2. And that was all she wrote. HERSHEY ties up the series at once a piece heading to Charlotte; wins at home 4-2. Stars of the Game: 1.) Dmitry Orlov, Hershey 2.) Zac Dalpe, Charlotte 3.) Brian Willsie, Hershey Notes: The Bears continue their quest for the Cup in round one vs. Charlotte in North Carolina on Tuesday 4/19 (game 3), Wednesday 4/20 (game four), and Friday 4/22 (game 5).
