Bears power play dooms the River Rats

HERSHEY, PA – For the second night in a row, the Hershey Bears came back twice from one-goal deficits to defeat the Albany River Rats, 6-3, in Game Two of the teams’ second-round playoff series. The Rats held leads of 2-1 and 3-2, but the Bears scored four unanswered goals in the third period to give Hershey a 2-0 series lead. The Bears are now 6-0 in this year’s playoffs. Andrew Gordon had two goals for the second night in a row, but he had help from Alexandre Giroux, who also had a pair on the night. The Bears power play went 3-7 while Albany only went 1-4 with the man advantage. Hershey outshot Albany, 28-21. Both teams scored a goal apiece in the first two periods.Then, Nick Dodge scored shorthanded 1:16 into the third to give Albany a brief lead. But the game turned on a dime when the power play kicked in, as Gordon and the Bears scored three quick goals  from the 3:24 mark to the 9:56. Steve Pinizzotto scored an empty net goal to finish off the scoring.
Both teams rolled out the same goaltenders for Game Two: Bears goaltender Michal Neuvirth and the River Rats Justin Peters. Hershey now had a combined record of 66-17-0-3 (regular season and playoffs).
The series moves to Albany for Game Three on Tuesday night.
