Baldwin unveils new Connecticut Whale logo

HARTFORD, CT – The return of “Pucky the Whale” to Hartford is underway.
Wednesday afternoon, Whalers Sports and Entertainment, which took control of the business operations of the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack earlier this month,

introduced the new main logo for the Connecticut Whale just before the Wolf Pack exhibition game against the Albany Devils.
The Wolf Pack will be re-branded as the Connecticut Whale during the 2010-2011 season with the new logo adorning the team’s new jerseys.
“We have created a fun logo that not only captures the family-oriented approach of the Whale, but also represents the competitive nature of Coach (Ken) Gernander’s Whale team,” Whale chairman Howard Baldwin said in unveiling the logo.
The logo, which was designed by Baldwin, the Whale marketing team and designer Erik Carlson, incorporates the blue and green colors of the Hartford Whalers, the NHL franchise owned by Baldwin from 1979-1988. Prior to joining the NHL, the Whalers began play as the New England Whalers of the World Hockey Association from 1972-1979. It depicts “Pucky the Whale” leaping through a large letter C while grasping a hockey stick in its fins. “Pucky” will remain the official “live” mascot of the Whale.
“We wanted to not only incorporate our traditional Whaler green but focus on the whale, the official animal of the state of Connecticut,” Baldwin said.
Baldwin noted that a secondary logo mark and official Connecticut Whale jersey designs would be introduced at a later date.
The Whale/Wolf Pack franchise is the AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers. The Wolf Pack season begins on October 9 at home against the Charlotte Checkers.
