Augusta ready to join SPHL

ORLANDO, FLA – Just over a week following its league meetings, the SPHL is making good on its promise of an anouncement about expansion.
Wednesday afternoon, the league announced via press release that a press conference has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 9 at 10 A.M. to introduce the new Augusta, Georgia franchise. SPHL Commissioner Jim Combs will be on hand at the James Brown Arena to introduce the team’s general manager and ownership group to the fans and media.
The SPHL had coveted the Augusta market since the city’s previous team, the ECHL’s Augusta Lynx, closed its doors in December of 2008. With the introduction of Augusta, the state of Georgia will be host to two SPHL teams, the other being the Columbus Cottonmouths.
Fans who attend the press conference will be able to leave season ticket deposits for the 2010-2011 season with the team.
