CARDIFF,U.K- Cardiff Devils goaltender Peter Aubry has warmly welcomed the signing of Canadian forward Rod Hinks with the UK Elite League club. Aubry played with Hinks at Newcastle Vipers in 2006-07 and is delighted to be playing alongside the speedy forward again. “I’m so excited to have Rod with us this year, he is going to be a huge part of our success this season,” “Rod reads the play really well and puts himself in good positions, he’s so smart out on the ice and is able to see what is developing, meaning he can create goal-scoring opportunities out of nothing,” Aubry said. “He’s also a really quick skater and has terrific breakaway speed, he will bring a lot of excitement.” In his only previous season in the UK, Hinks registered 47 points in just 40 games including 23 goals for Newcastle Vipers and has been credited as the most creative threat in the 06-07 Vipers team. Last season he played in the Swiss B league, a league in which Devils coach Gerad Adams has declared ‘you have to be really skilled to play in.’ However, Aubry is keen to point out that Hinks will bring a lot more than creativity and speed to the Devils next season. Aubry believes the 35 year old Hinks’ experience will be a huge asset to the Devils.
“There’s no question Rod’s influence will be invaluable to our team, he will be a calming effect on the younger guys and point them in the right direction,” Aubry said. “Every team needs strong leaders to succeed and Rod’s leadership skills will be a great benefit to the team.” “He’s a real good guy off the ice, I’m sure everyone will like him, he’s a witty guy and I’m sure he’ll deliver plenty of laughs off the ice,” concluded Aubry. Devils fans will be looking forward to the many qualities Hinks will bring to their team. His playmaking abilities will supply a good balance to a group of forwards that already boasts a huge amount of physicality . Contact the author at Aled.Lloyd@prohockeynews.com
