READING, Pa – Air Force, Bentley, RIT, and Mercyhurst advanced to Atlantic Hockey semifinals to be played this weekend in Rochester, N.Y. The winner of the tournament will earn an automatic bid in the NCAA Frozen Four Championship tournament.
Below is a recap of this past weekends quarterfinals. Each series was a best two-out-of-three series. RIT wins series 2-1 Game 1 – Holy Cross 5 RIT 3 Game 2 – RIT 6 Holy Cross 4 Game 3 – RIT 9 Holy Cross 5 #6 Army at #3 Mercyhurst Merceyhurts wins series 2-0 Mercyhurst 6 Army 2 Mercyhurst 6 Army 0 #5 Canisius at #4 Bentley Bentley wins series 2-1 Bentley 6 Canisius 3 Canisius 7 Bentley 3 Bentley 4 Canisius 2 Below is a look at this coming weekends semifinal series and the upcoming champhionship schedule. Friday, March 20 – Semifinals at the Blue Cross Arena, Rochester, N.Y. Semifinal #1 – #4 Bentley vs. #1 Air Force, 4:05 p.m. Air Force won the regular season series against Bentley 3-1. Air Force also improved to 9-1 all-time in the AHA Tournament and a perfect 6-0 in AHA elimination games. The Falcons improved to 25-10-2 overall. The 25 wins are a school record and tied the school record for wins against all opponents with the schools 1971-7 2 team. This will be the third time Bentley has made it to the semifinals and the first time since the 2005-06 season. Semifinal #2 – #3 Mercyhurst vs. #2 RIT, 7:35 p.m. RIT won the season series against Merceyhurst 2-0. This was the second year in a row that RIT has eliminated Holy Cross in the quarterfinals. The nine goals scored by RIT sets a Division I team record for most goals. The Tigers nine goals also tied an AHA Tournament record for goals in a game and the 14 combined goals was also an AHA Tournament record. The 32 total goals scored in the three-game series is an Atlantic Hockey Association Tournament record. Mercyhurst led Atlantic hockey in offense during the regular season. RIT was second overall. Both were tied in scoring defense. Saturday, March 21 – Championship at the Blue Cross Arena, Rochester, N.Y.
