DETROIT, MI – Cam Atkinson led the Boston College offense with 2 goals and goaltender John Muse made 20 saves for the shutout over the Wisconsin Badgers 5-0 and the Eagles officially reclaimed their throne in NCAA Division I Men’s hockey. BC outscored their opponents 12-1 in the Frozen Four and laid claim to their fourth title in school history. The Eagles also won titles in 1949, 2001, and 2008. What was so impressive was that they did it in front of a record crowd of 37,592, the largest crowd ever for an indoor hockey game.
The Eagles outshot the Badgers 11-5 in the first period but only had one goal lead to show for it. Still, in the third period, everything BC touched turned to gold.
Atkinson played like a man possessed along with Chris Kreider as they put up three goals early in the third period to essentially end the game and start the celebration early.
This marks the third straight year that a team from Boston has won the NCAA title. Last season Boston University won the crown over Miami (Ohio).
