Allen drops critical Game Five at home

ALLEN, Texas – After winning a thrilling overtime game on Friday night, the Americans came back home to face the Brahmas Saturday night in a critical Game Five showdown. With the momentum from the big win the night before, one would expect the Americans to ride that wave to victory and gain the edge in the series, but it was not to be as the Americans fell short and now face elimination in Game Six Tuesday night.

The game’s only goal came in the opening frame when Texas setup a pretty tic-tac-toe play in the Allen end. Brett Findlay sent the puck back to Mike Hellyer at the point, he fired back a quick touch pass to Calin Wild all alone in front of the Americans net where Wild one-timed a low shot past Marco Cousineau in the net at 7:04.

Allen had two power play opportunities but both were underwhelming, only two shots on goal came from both as Allen looked uninspired with the man-advantage and made the Texas penalty kill unit’s job an easy one.

The Americans defense had several miscues that led to good offensive chances for the Brahmas that were frustrated by some stellar goaltending by Marco Cousineau in net for Allen. Compounding that was a consistently good forecheck by the Brahmas that smothered the Allen breakout.

Neither the Americans nor Brahmas were able to get any sustained offense going as the game was a strict defensive battle at both ends of the ice with the majority of the puck battles being won by Texas.

Shots on goal were low for both teams with the Americans holding the three period total 23-20 but Texas scoring the all important game winning goal in the first period. The two teams now head back to the NYTEX Sports Centre where the Brahmas can put away the series and move to the next round with a victory on Tuesday night.

Allen will have to crank up the tempo Tuesday night, put bodies in the slot and start firing shots at the Brahmas net from all angles if they hope to force a Game Seven.

Game Six of the best-of-seven series is set for Tuesday night at the NYTEX Sports Center, with the opening puck drop scheduled for 7:05 pm CST.
