2011 Clader Cup Playoffs May 4 Review

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Portland Pirates had their own offensive outburst scoring six goal in the win 6-1 against the Binghamton Senators to stay alive for another day. Mark Mancari had two goals and two assists as Jhonas Enroth got the win for the Pirates. It must’ve been something about being at home for Manitoba that woke up the scoring beast as they battled the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 5-4 victory. The two teams will do it again on Wednesday. Robbie Earl had a three assist night but that wasn’t enough as the Milwaukee Admirals takes a one game lead over the Houston Aeros.
The only other game on Wednesday will see if the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins can tie up their series at two against the Charlotte Checkers. SECOND ROUND Atlantic Division Finals PORTLAND vs. BINGHAMTON Binghamton leads series 3 – 2
It was do or die for the Portland Pirates on Tuesday and they did it to stave off elimination by defeating the Binghamton Senators soundly by the score of 6-2 as they are within one game of tying the series up and sending it to a final Game 7.
The special teams for the Pirates came out like gangbusters in the first as two as they took advantage of two consecutive delay of game penalties. At the 4:59 mark, Colin Stuart scored his third goal of the playoffs. Just over a minute later, Luke Adam scored with Mark Mancari getting consecutive helpers. Mancari decided that he was done helping and got a goal himself short-handed at 11:40. Portland completed the first period quad as Mark Parrish scored with 5:31 left in the opening period.
The Pirates keep piling it on in the second as center Mark Voakes scored 2:37 in, with the lone assist going to Derek Whitmore. Finally Binghamton erased the goose egg off the board as Jim O’Brien scored his first of the playoffs. But Mancari wanted to match his two assist with another goal and he did for his sixth of the playoffs as 12:33. With four and a half minutes left in the second the teams exchanged goals again as right wing Bobby Butler scored his seventh of the playoffs with Mike Hoffman getting his second helper of the night.
The scoring ended there as Jhonas Enroth got the win facing 37 shots. Robin Lehner lasted just under 15 minutes in the game before he was pulled after allowing the four first period goals.

The Manitoba Moose duked it out with the Hamilton Bulldogs and persevered to win a back and forth battle by the score of 5-4 in Game 3. The win brought them within one win of tying the series.
Nine goals were scored in this game by nine different players. Bulldogs netminder Drew MacIntyre suffered his first loss in five games as he stopped 23 of the 28 shots he faced.
The two teams exchanged goals late in the first as the Moose struck first as Alexandre Bolduc scored at the 14:42 mark. With less than four minutes left, the Bulldogs Ian Schultz scores with assists from Dany Masse and Jimmy Bonneau.
In the second Hamilton got their only lead of the game as right winger Aaron Palushaj scored early. But the Moose scored two morale-defeating goals scoring twice in in the final minute. Center Jordan Schroeder scored his first goal of the playoff at the 19:25 mark. With two seconds left in the period, Ryan White was called for interference, and one second off the faceoff, bam, Sergei Shirokov scored his sixth of the playoffs.
The third period found the two teams exchanging goals as Marco Rosa scored the Moose third straight on the power play 4:40 into the final frame. Gabriel Dumont brought the Bulldogs back to within one under a minute later. But late in the game Jason Jaffray scored at the 17:43 with helper from Shirokov and Rosa to put Manitoba up by two. With just under two minutes left, MacIntyre was pulled and with 32 seconds left White scored to bring the Bulldogs back within one but it was too little too late.

Even though the Milwaukee Admirals were outshot by nine on Tuesday night, they came out the victor over the Houston Aeros by the score of 5-3 as they take a one game lead in the best out of seven series.
Both teams finished the first period with one goal apiece as the Aeros struck first with defenseman Jared Spurgeon scoring with assists from Robbie Earl and Cody Almond. Late in the period it was Mark Van Guilder with the tally at the 17:55 mark.
The second is where the meat was scored for the Admirals as they struck twice with Ryan Thang and Andreas Thuresson scoring in the period.
This is what they needed as the teams once again exchanged two goals apiece in the third. Houston’s Marco Scandella brought his team within one goal as he scored on the power play 8:18 into the final frame. Steve Begin came right back and got that goal back, but the ping pong battle continued. Right wing Jared Palmer made the score 4-3 with Earl getting his third assist of the night. The Admirals closed out the scoring as Mike Barlett tallied the final goal at 10:35 into the third. The four goals in the third all came within two and a half minutes.
