CHICAGO, Ill. – The Houston Aeros stayed on serve and now have a two-games to zip lead over the Hamilton Bulldogs by winning Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals by the score of 3-2. Hopefully the Bulldogs can take their excellent home playoff record and turn this series around as the series goes to Hamilton for the next three, only if they win at least one of the next two.
After a quiet first period, the Aeros scored two power play goals that bookended Hamilton’s Gabriel Dumont’s goal at the 14:03. Robbie Earl scored the first goal of the game 3:16 in, with helper’s from Jared Spurgeon and Warren Peters. Defenseman Marco Scandella closed out the scoring in the second with 10 seconds left with another assist from Spurgeon and one from Cody Almond.
Houston made the score 3-1 as left wing Colton Gillies scored 5:10 into the final frame with the lone assist from Jed Ortmeyer. Hamilton cut the score down to one as center Ryan Russell scored his fifth of the playoffs with assists to Aaron Palushaj and Mathieu Carle. But that is all she wrote as the game ended with no more scoring.
Game 3 of this and the Eastern Conference Finals, which pits the Charlotte Checkers against the Binghamton Senators, will resume on Tuesday. The Senators take a 2-0 series lead heading home where they can advance to the Calder Cup Finals if they can take two of the next three.
